1) Do you license mp3, mp3PRO and mp3surround software to end users?No. We license mp3/mp3PRO software and patents to developers and manufacturers of software applications and hardware devices. 2) Where can I read more about mp3, mp3PRO and mp3surround?Check out our section about mp3, mp3PRO and mp3surround. 3) Where do I get mp3, mp3PRO and mp3surround software?Many software companies have a license for mp3/mp3PRO software applications from us (See list of Licensed Companies). Please contact them directly for their mp3/mp3PRO products or visit their web site. 4) Do I need a license to stream mp3, mp3PRO or mp3surround encoded content over the Internet?Yes. A license is needed for commercial (i.e., revenue-generating) use of mp3/mp3PRO in broadcast systems (terrestrial, satellite, cable and/or other distribution channels), streaming applications (via Internet, intranets and/or other networks), other content distribution systems (pay-audio or audio-on-demand applications and the like) or for use of mp3/mp3PRO on physical media (compact discs, digital versatile discs, semiconductor chips, hard drives, memory cards and the like). However, no license is needed for private, non-commercial activities (e.g., home-entertainment, receiving broadcasts and creating a personal music library), not generating revenue or other consideration of any kind or for entities with associated annual gross revenue less than US$ 100 000.00. 7) Why can I only encode at 64 kbps with the Thomson Demo mp3PRO Player/Encoder?This software was designed to introduce the mp3PRO technology. It was not meant to be a full featured product. We encourage you to contact your favorite mp3 software and hardware manufacturers and find out if their products include support for the mp3PRO format. 8) Can I upgrade my mp3 player to mp3PRO technology?Please contact your software mp3 player publisher and your hardware mp3 player manufacturer to learn if, and when, a new version of the player with support for the mp3PRO format will be available. 9) What do I need to use mp3PRO technology?You need an mp3PRO encoder to create mp3PRO bit streams. To play these mp3PRO bit streams you need an mp3PRO player.
